With the dust of Guru's Lotus feet, I clean the mirror of my mind
and then narrate the sacred glory of Sri Ram Chandra,
The Supereme among the Raghu dynasty.
The giver of the four attainments of life.
I am aware of the fact that I an ignorant, Therefore, I urge you, O Hanuman, The son of Pavan! O Lord, to kindly bestow on me the strength, wisdom and knowledge, and remove all my miseries and blemishes. |

With limbs as sturdy as Vajra (Vajra is a legendry unbreakable hardest substance). You are valiant and brave. On you attend good sense and wisdom. You dispel the darkness of evil thoughts.
Your body is beautiful with golden color and your dress is pretty. You wear ear rings and have long curly hair. (2) |

You carry in your hand a lightening bolt along with a
flag and wear the sacred thread on your shoulder.
You are (the incarnation of) 'SHIVA' and you look like a lion in nice forest (being of orange color like a lion). Being ever brilliant, you and hold vast sway over the universe. The entire world bows down to you.(3) |

You are very learned, and very smart. You are always keen to carry out the duties for Shri Ram (as orderd by Shri Ram). You are always so keen to listen to the narration of Shri Ram's Life Stories. You always dwell in the hearts of Shri Ram, Lakshman and Sita.(4) |

Sukshma roop Dhari Siyahi Dikhwana, Bikat roop Dhari Lank Jarawa. Bhim roop Dhari Asur Sanhare, Ramchandra Ke kaaj Savare.(5) |
You appeared before Sita in a tiny (miniature) form and spoke to her, while you assumed an awesome form and struck terror by setting Lanka on fire. He, with his terrible form, killed demons in Lanka and performed the duty (task)for Shri Ram.(5) |

Laye Sanjivan Lakhan Jiyaye Shri Raghuvir Harashi ur laye Raghupati Kinhi bahut badai Tum mam priye Bharat-hi sam bhai (6) |
You brought Sanjivani (A herb that revives life) and restored
Lakshman back to life, Shri Raghuvir (Shri Ram) cheerfully
embraced you to his chest.
Shri Raghupati (Shri Ram) said admiring you "You are as dear to me as my own brother Bharat." (6) |

Sahas badan tumharo yash gaave Us kahi Shripati kanth lagaave Sankadik Brahmadi Muneesa Narad Sarad sahit Aheesa (7) |
People in thousands(bodies) are chanting your glories;
saying thus, Shri Ram hugged him (Shri Hanuman).
Sanka and other Sages like Lord Brahma, including Narada himself and Goddess Saraswati and Ahisha (are chanting your glories).(7) |

Jam Kuber Digpal Jahan te Kavi kovid kahi sake kahan te Tum upkar Sugreevahin keenha Ram milaye rajpad deenha (8) |
When Yamraj, Kuber and the Digpals, the guards for East, West South, North etc.
(are singing your glories), how then, can an ordinary poet (Tulsidas is referring to himself!) give adequate expression of your super excellence.
You obliged Sugriva. (and thus)You united him with Shri Ram and he installed him on the Royal Throne.(8) |

Tumharo mantra Vibheeshan mana Lankeshwar Bhaye Sub jag jana Yug sahastra jojan par Bhanu Leelyo tahi madhur phal janu(9) |
This fact is known all over the Universe that Vibhishana became Lord of Lanka on your advice. You thought that the (early morning) Sun is a sweet fruit, so, you dashed upon the Sun who is thousands of millions of miles away.(9) |

Prabhu mudrika meli mukh mahee Jaladhi langhi gaye achraj nahee Durgaam kaj jagat ke jete Sugam anugraha tumhre tete (10) |
It is not a surprise that you easily leapt across the ocean since you carried the Lord's Ring in your mouth.
It becomes easy to carry out all the difficult tasks of the world with your kind grace.(10) |

Ram dware tum rakhvare, Hoat na agya binu paisare Sub sukh lahai tumhari sarna Tum rachhak kahu ko dar na (11) |
You are the guard at the door of Shri Ram's Divine Abode. No one can enter it without your permission.
All comforts of the world surrender (lie) at your feet. There is no need to fear when you are the Protector (11) |

Aapan tej samharo aapai
Teenhon lok hank te kanpai
Bhoot pisach Nikat nahin aavai Mahavir jab naam sunavai (12) |
You alone are suitable to carry your own splendid valor. All the
three worlds (entire universe) shake at your thunderous call.
All the ghosts, demons and evil forces keep away, with the mention of your great name, O,Mahaveer!! (12) |

Nase rog harai sab peera Japat nirantar Hanumant beera Sankat se Hanuman chudavai Man Karam Vachan dyan jo lavai (13) |
All diseases, pain and suffering disappear on reciting regularly
Shri Hanuman's holy name.
Those who remember Shri Hanuman in thought, words and deeds , are rescued from all disasters in life. (13) |

Sub par Ram tapasvee raja
Tin ke kaj sakal Tum saja
Aur manorath jo koi lavai Sohi amit jeevan phal pavai (14) |
Shri Ram is the Supreme king of sacred worship for all. He makes all difficult tasks very easy.
And He fulfils the entire wish that is brought to Him and one gets all the unlimited result of (Devine) life. (14) (14) |

Charon Yug partap tumhara Hai persidh jagat ujiyara Sadhu Sant ke tum Rakhware Asur nikandan Ram dulhare (15) |
All through the four eras (yuga, in Sanskrit) (or ages like ice age etc.) your magnificent glory is acclaimed all over Your fame is Radiantly acclaimed all over the universe.
You are Savior and the guardian of Saints and Sages and you destroy all Demons. You are very dear to Shri Ram. (15) |

Ashta sidhi nav nidhi ke dhata Us var deen Janki mata Ram rasayan tumhare pasa Sada raho Raghupati ke dasa (16) |
You can grant to any one, any yogic power of Eight Siddhis and Nine Nidhis
This boon has been conferred upon you by Mother Janki.
And He fulfils the entire wish that is brought to Him and one gets all the unlimited result of (Devine) life. (14) (16) |

Tumhare bhajan Ram ko paavai Janam janam ke dukh bisaravai Antakaal Raghuvarpur jaee Jahan janm haribhakta kahaee (17) |
Your chanted prayers (bhajans) are received by Ram. And then, you forget the miseries of this life and coming lives.
In the end, those devotees go to Rama'a abode (Ram) and they are known as Haribhakta — devotee of Hari. (Ram) (17) |

Aur Devata chint na dharaee Hanumat se ee sab sarba sukha karaee Sankat katai mitai sab peeraa Jo sumirai Hanumat balbeeraa(18) |
There is no need to keep any other god in (your) mind and . If all the work is done after serving You, then happiness immediately follows.
Troubles end and all the anguishes are vanished after chanting the name of Hanuman, the mighty and strong.(18) |

Jaya Jaya Jaya Hanuman Gosai Krupa karahu gurudev ki naee Jo saat baar paaTH kar koee Chhoot hee bandi mahasukh hoee (19) |

Those who read this Hanuman Chalisa attain perfection [siddhi] and are like the friend of Shiv (Gaurisha). The poet Tulsidas is a forever devotee of Hari. O Lord Hanuman! Please make my heart as your residence.(20) |
